Grayslake Curves for Women Holding Annual Thanksgiving Dinner for Community's Less Fortunate November 22 Dinner and Coat Give-away in its fourth year, first at new location
Curves for Women in Grayslake, IL will host its fourth annual Thanksgiving dinner and coat drive Nov. 22 for those in the Grayslake-area who do not have the means to provide a Thanksgiving dinner or a warm winter coat for their families or themselves.

GRAYSLAKE, IL, November 13, 2008 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Curves for Women in Grayslake, IL will host its fourth annual Thanksgiving dinner and coat drive Nov. 22 for those in the Grayslake-area who do not have the means to provide a Thanksgiving dinner or a warm winter coat for their families or themselves.

The event will take place Saturday, Nov. 22 from 1 to 3 p.m. at Curves for Women, 55 N. Barron Blvd (Route 83), just north of Center Street, in Grayslake. This is a new location for this year's event; Grayslake Curves relocated from 100 S. Atkinson Rd., November 1.

As in each prior year for this special community event, all dinner items will be donated, prepared and served by Grayslake Curves members, who also donated the children's winter coats that will be distributed for the families in attendance.

Both the Avon Township and PLAN (People Lending Assistance Network) food pantries in the area help promote the Curves event to their clients. Both pantries are beneficiaries of Grayslake Curves' member's generosity throughout the year.

Last year', this event fed more than 300 men, women and children. Cynthia Leman, Grayslake Curves owner, expects even more participants this year, given the economic climate.

"The issue of hunger in our community is real and is not as well known within the mainstream community as it should be," Leman says. ""We have teachers as members of the Grayslake Curves who tell stories of children who come to school without a coat. They borrow a coat to be able to go outside to play at recess. Our goal is fill their day with cheer, a Thanksgiving meal and a warm coat for winter. It's the least we can do."

According to PLAN Food Pantry director Michael Pimpo, more than 49,000 people in Lake County live below the poverty line, with one of 10 Illinois residents struggling to provide for themselves regular access to enough safe, nutritious food for an active and healthy life. Thirty-five percent of the members of households served by PLAN are families who have children under 18 years old.

Curves for Women is a 30-minute weight loss and fitness center for women providing cardio, strength training and stretching in a fun, fast and safe environment. Contact the Grayslake Curves at 847-543-9922.
